Canelo Alvarez has vacated his WBC belt due in part to the mandatory deadline set by the WBC. Alavarez was being forced to schedule a bout with Gennady Golovkin in the fall for a middleweight unification. After defeating Khan in his last bout Alvarez was expected to take Golovkin head on in which would have been the biggest fight since Mayweather-Pacquiao. The fight was been put on the back burner for quite some time in order to let the fight “marinate” according to Oscar De La Hoya. Gennady Golovkin could care less about marinating and has said that he just wants his shot. Golovkin has been a terror in the middle weight division going undefeated with an impressive record of 35-0 with 32 wins by knockout. There has been much skepticism surrounding Golovkin’s record as many people have said that he has not fought anyone impressive. Now, the criticism is pointing towards Alvarez as he failed to step up.
Whelp, Canelo vacated his belt instead of fight GGG. Wow. Great fighters step up when challenges like these are made. Very disappointing
