With the NFL season right around the corner, I thought I’d share my week one picks for those of you out there that like to gamble a bit and are sick and tired of getting taken out to the wood shed.

The NFL season officially kicks off on Thursday, September 8th with a rematch of the Super Bowl as the Panthers look to get a small piece of revenge as they travel to Denver for an 8:30 pm kick off.  That following Sunday marks the first full day of the regular season and a national holiday for millions of Americans, myself included.

Like most of this demographic, I’ll be glued to a large TV for the entirety of the day.  But rather than being in the comfort of my own home, you’ll find me sweating in a booth at the MGM Las Vegas.

Last season I went 13-6 as I rode the Arizona Cardinals winning streak into the playoffs.  This record helped me build a bit of a bankroll and you better believe I’ll be looking to bet big and often this year.

There are three week one games that I’ve had my eye on since the schedules were released, each of which I’ve ranked on a completely arbitrary confidence (%) system.

Minnesota @ Tennessee

Line = Minnesota -3

Pick = Minnesota 83%

If it weren’t for a shanked gimme field goal against the Seahawks, who knows how far the Vikings would have gone in last year’s playoffs.  I like what Mike Zimmer is doing up there and I think it is too soon for the Mariota project to start delivering big wins against playoff teams.

Chicago @ Houston

Line = Houston -4

Pick = Houston 79%

Chicago is a mess and Jay Cutler isn’t helping their cause anymore. Houston has the best defensive front seven in football (even without JJ Watt) and finally got a QB they believe in.

Green Bay @ Jacksonville

Line = Green Bay -4.5

Pick = Green Bay 71%

It looks like Jordy Nelson is going to be good to play by week one and as long as Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers aren’t suspended, I think this is an easy win.

Keep in mind, these picks are all subject to change as the season is a little less than a month away. However, I plan on taking each of these teams individually and as a three team parlay and suggest you do too.
