The men’s championship game ended in a movie type fashion as Villanova upset North Carolina. The teams went back and forth throughout the game changing leads 8 times. NRG stadium was packed with an attendance of 74,430 people.
Each time a team looked as if they were going to make a run and seal the game, the other team would wake up and rally back. Villanova fans were up and loud the whole game while North Carolina fans look deflated that the game was even in reach for the Wildcats. Senior guard Marcus Paige hit multiple clutch threes to draw the Tarheels back in to striking distance as Villanova started to pull away during crunch time. Brice Johnson banked in a chip shot bringing them within one point with a minute to go. Phil Booth, Villanova, had a big night with 20 points including two free throws which looked to seal the game. Paige soon answered back after missing a layup and then stripping the ball to get a quick bucket. Soon after he made an incredible unorthodox three to tie the game back up with three seconds to go. Junior guard Kris Jenkins came back down and ended the game with a dagger disguised as a three. The two teams came out and gave it everything they had, unfortunately only one could come out victorious.
