New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was just recently named the Madden 17 cover athlete. Gronk will be not only the first tight end to ever grace the cover, but also the first New England Patriot as well. He was a finalist last year, but lost the ’16 cover athlete fan vote to Odell Beckham Jr. Gronk is depicted on the cover doing his trademark celebratory touchdown spike.

Gronk looks to follow up his 2015 season where he amassed 1,176 yards on 72 receptions while scoring 11 TD’s. He will have to do it without his star quarterback Tom Brady for the first quarter of the season, who is facing a four-game suspension to start the season for his role in Deflategate. Gronk is one of the NFL’s most popular players, making various television and endorsement appearances within the last two year. The legend of Gronk is continuously growing after his enshrinement into Madden history. Madden NFL ’17 will be released Aug. 23.
*Gronkowski enters the 2016 season sitting third on the all-time touchdown list for tight ends with 65, respectfully behind Tony Gonzalez (111) and Antonio Gates (104).
